NEW YORK — A 19-year-old man at a Manhattan shelter for migrants has been charged with stabbing a worker in the neck, police said Wednesday.

Jonathan Manu is charged with attempted murder, assault and weapon possession.

He allegedly attacked the 41-year-old woman during an argument at the Bowery Hanbee Hotel on Grand Street near the Bowery on Tuesday afternoon.

Medics took the woman to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Police said she knows Manu, though their relationship was not clear.

The hotel sparked controversy in 2022, when there were plans to transition it into a drop-in homeless shelter and Safe Haven facility. But community opposition defeated that plan and it instead later became a shelter for newly arrived migrants.

Cathy Glasson, a longtime neighborhood resident, said the shelter seems to be well run.

“The facility has been a very good neighbor since it became a shelter for immigrant families,” she told The News Tuesday.
