Martin Freeman and his girlfriend "like cooking" together.

The 53-year-old actor - who shares children, Joe, 18 and Grace, 16, with his former wife and 'Sherlock' co-star Amanda Abbington - revealed he and his French actress partner Rachel Benaissa, enjoy spending time together in the kitchen.

Lennie Ware asked on her and daughter Jessie Ware's 'Table Manners' podcast: "She's French. Is she Cordon Bleu?"

To which 'The Hobbit' star - who went public with his romance in 2021 - replied: "She's not a Cordon Bleu … She's a massive cheese and wine w****. That's what she would say about herself. She says that about herself, 'I'm a cheese and wine w****.' It's not all she is, but no, she loves all that stuff. We like cooking."

The 'Miller's Girl' actor said his mother Philomena - who "was one of 14" - did not hold back from questioning why she should cook for his "very traditional, working-class" dad Geoffrey in a time where it was expected that "women cooked".

Martin explained: "My mum was one of 14. I think certain bits of knowledge got kind of skipped over various bits of that brood of kids.

"I think she was working. And she wouldn't have called herself, you know, again, she was born in '33 she wouldn't have thought of herself as a proto feminist.

"But I think she sort of was in her head like, 'Why should I cook for you (his dad)? You've got two arms?' [My dad] was from up north, originally.

"He had a very traditional working-class background, I suppose, where, understandably, women cooked. And, you know, I have no judgment on that one way or the other."

While Martin likes to cook, he insisted that he will not make sashimi because "that's what that restaurant's for".

He said: "I believe in specialities, and I believe in people's specialism, and I think, well, in the same way that I'm not going to get in your territory and make your album, yeah, I'm not going to start trying to do sashimi in the same way, like, that's what that restaurant's for."

'Table Manners' is released weekly and is available on podcast streaming platforms.
