Chiefs trade down a pick, select Ohio State OT Josh Simmons in 1st round of NFL draft

The Kansas City Chiefs have a first under general manager Brett Veach: They have traded down with their first-round pick, albeit only one spot.
Then, a few months after seeing a debacle at left tackle derail their three-peat hopes, they addressed that position in the first round of the NFL draft.
KC, with the 32nd selection of the 2025 NFL draft, selected Ohio State left tackle Josh Simmons.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Simmons ranked 18th on Pro Football Focus’ Big Board. He might have fallen a bit because of injury, as he tore his ACL in October during the 2024 season.
PFF said the 22-year-old Simmons “brings impressive flexibility, leverage, foot speed, balance and hand work to the NFL with an adequate frame.”
NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah, meanwhile, had Simmons as his 37th-ranked prospect. Jeremiah said, “The main question with Simmons is health. What he put on tape this fall should generate plenty of optimism about his chances of becoming a quality starting left tackle in the NFL.”
The Chiefs, for switching picks with Philadelphia, received the Eagles’ fifth-round pick, 164th overall. KC previously didn’t have a selection in the fifth or sixth rounds.
The NFL draft continues with Rounds 2-3 starting at 6 p.m. Central Time on Friday. The Chiefs are slated to have the 63rd overall pick in the second round, followed by selections 66 and 95 in the third round.
